Hi Julie,
I enjoyed listening to Dan Butterfield’s pod cast. He mentioned taking 10,000 units of Vitamin D daily. I was hoping he would have mentioned how much our bodies can actually absorb at one time. Maybe taking smaller doses throughout the day might stay with us better. What do you think?
Hi Joanie- I asked Dan your question and this is his response:
Hi Julie, I’ve not seen any information that more frequent dosing of vitamin D increases absorption. There is a 600% variation in absorption, body weight and genetics play some role. The body is used to high doses, 20,000 to 50,000 iu from 30 minutes of mostly full body exposure to mid day sun. In Germany infants are given 300,000 iu every 3 months. It is kind of remarkable to me how much D supplementing it takes to get our levels into the optimum range of 50 to 90 ng/ml.
Hope this helps!
Julie
